Me too. Not being able to see what you owe or refunded sucks. I am not using TT next year either.
Very Concerned Customer
One of the joys of doing my taxes was watching the amount fluctuate in how much I owed. If I can no longer see the amount due as I enter information, I will no longer be using Turbo Tax.
I feel the exact same way. I used the refund meter going up or down to gauge whether my information actually got entered and saved in TurboTax at each step. Now I feel like I'm flying blind. Ugh, so frustrating.
This functionality being gone is very bad for my family.
In addition to using the running refund information to make sure my entries were being properly saved, we used the running refund to estimate our taxes before requesting extensions.
We'd put in most of our information (except not all the time-consuming things like detailed deductions) and see if we owed anything, so we would know whether to send an additional payment with the extension request. Then we could take our time until October to handle all the details. That refund/owe information was extremely important functionality for us.
Sure, TurboTax has some other online calculator for this, but it only calculates FEDERAL information and not state, so I guess we're just out of luck there. And I'm guessing it isn't as accurate as the running calculation inside of TurboTax.
I'm also guessing something broke the functionality and they weren't able to get it back in time for tax season. I hope they get it back ASAP.
I see lots of people reconsidering their use of TurboTax, and this really is probably the thing that will push me to start using a tax professional instead of doing this myself. (And I would not get one through TurboTax. We purchased the live Tax Support product last year and got 3 different answers from 3 different TurboTax professionals about the same question. Instead, I'd get recommendations from people in my field for tax professionals.)
I've tried the "solution" listed where you go to "Review," but because we don't enter all of our information when doing our estimates, I have over a dozen things I'd have to review before getting through it. I don't want to review them because I need to know later that they weren't actually done and were only estimates. So I can't even try to get through the review and see if I get my estimate.
Please fix this functionality and put it back in place, Intuit. You're supposed to improve the product each year, not remove the functions we need. At the very least, give us a toggle switch to turn it on for those of us who need it.
Thanks!
this was a great feature that helped to indicate if you had selected the right option when input certain forms. if they don't change this back for next year, I will be moving to a different platform.
I'd move this year, but only have a day left to file
This is a very anxiety-inducing update. When I uploaded our W2s, it showed us owing taxes, and then all of the updates disappeared. I couldn't complete the filing in one sitting, so I just have to manage the not-knowing until next weekend when I have time.
I've always loved using TurboTax. This update makes me feel like they no longer understand me.
Thus is the correct answer but I should still have the option to see it.
Thank you . It doesn't show right away you have to go through several screens. Please revist an "easy button".
I use the Turbo Tax running refund/owe to understand how my financial choices and actions affect the tax I owe. It was a learning tool for me. I helped me understand tax choices. Now I don't know the effect a particular action will result in. I do not want a "Black Box" approach. Please bring the running refund/owe back.
Turbo Tax is now a program for people who prefer to be ignorant.
The running refund not showing does not work for me either. I like to see how different things (like my husband's retirement pay) affect the refund. It's very frustrating not to be able to see it until all the information has been entered.
@CMc273 See this TurboTax support FAQ for the refund/taxes owed indicators - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/customer-complaints/dont-see-tracker-sho...
@DoninGA Thanks, but that just says that they have removed the ability to see it until everything has been entered in each section (income, deductions, etc.) I want to see the running total when we enter new info like we have had in years' past. I like to see exactly how certain things are affecting how much a get back/owe.
it doesnt show anything when clicking review. I finished my taxes and now it wants me to pay and dont even know if i owe money or not. ridiculous

If you click on Review and it completes without error you are shown the amount of the federal tax refund or the amount of federal taxes owed. It will also show the amount of the State tax refund or the amount of the State taxes owed.
it doesnt show anything. i cant even get a hold of anyone on the phone. what a mess.
