This change is asinine. Of course people have always used the running tracker to gauge their progress! The only reason to remove this feature is to hope people miss something during their prep. And this feature was available earlier this tax season and has now been removed! Taxes are already a pain in the ass to complete, especially knowing the IRS has all the information they need from us, but forces us to pay to the file forms. Now TT is hoping we make mistakes on top of this useless annual exercise. What makes it ten times worse is, I moved away from TT years ago to avoid their antics but they've bought up all their competitors! I hate this so much. Every year you suck more and more out of your users while providing less and less. We can't opt out of doing this, so just cut the **bleep** and stop with the games.
I have to say... removing this took the only tidbit of fun out of your tax software and now I am free to go anywhere else. I think you should put it back with a disclaimer.
Last year for me too using Turbo....not showing is a big disadvantage. Worse part they had to F'up on the year I sold a lot of options of which I already paid taxes so I can't really tell now if I am paying taxes twice.
It doesn’t stay there
totally agree, removing running return is the most stupid thing Turbotax has done
This worked!! Jeez O' Whiz - what a major F**k up Intuit technical staff - how?? why?? 15+ year TT user here, never seen anything this jacked up from a company I've trusted my finances to for so many years.
Agreed! I have been using the program for years and this was a great tool. Now I have to go through multiple review screens before getting that information. I've been a fan of Intuit products for years, but I think this will be my last year of TurboTax.
You’ll see Explain my taxes and your refund amount or taxes due in the Federal Review stage of TurboTax Online. For accuracy and simplicity, we show these totals after you enter your income, deductions, and credits instead of showing a running total meter at each step of the filing process.
The only thing I can figure out that actually works is signing into the app after each change - it updates on the app in realtime - super annoying and frustrating but none of the tips for the online version seem to work
This absurd change is sort of the "New Coke" of software "improvements". And if you're old enough to get that reference, then you're old enough to know how many decades I've been using Turbo Tax! 😀
This change, along with having no way to see my actual completed tax forms until I file (HUH?), caused me to immediately make a switch so I could actually get my taxes done. I'm now a happy H&R Block customer!
If you're still battling with this nonsense and desperate to get your taxes done this weekend, it's not too late to make the switch!
Cynthiad66 Read the room. The only helpful post you could make is "We understand we made a misstep and hope to fix it for next year". Somehow 9 pages in of obvious frustration still claiming this is an improvement is WILD
After an hour wasted on the phone and 2 dropped calls. This is the only solution that worked! This needs to be pinned to the top! TT representatives had no idea that this glitch exists. I tried everything. Different PCs, browsers, etc. Nothing worked! This was the only solution! Thank you!
Solution: Click "Federal Review", then do NOT try to fix any errors. Just click next or continue. The live calculator magically shows up.
Same. What other programs would you recommend?
Which other tax prep software would you recommend moving forward?
I wish they allowed us to turn it on. I like tracking what I owe/what I get back as I enter info. I like watching the number go up and down.
