I bought an old version of turbo tax to file 2008 return, but some of the forms are outdated and the printed return has the words stamped all over it "form not final".

That software is too old and you cannot get updates for it. Just so you know, it is far past the time when you could get a refund for a 2008 tax return. You can get paper forms to file from the IRS.

TurboTax only support the last 3 years (2013-2015) which are the only years that can be amended for a refund due to the IRS statute of limitations.
