TurboTax is inexplicable\y filling out Schedule 8812

I have entered a very simple return, married filing jointly, no dependents. When I go to Federal Review, TT gives the following error twice:

Schedule 8812: Advance payments received must be entered.

Why is TT trying to fill out Schedule 8812 when I have no dependents and said "no" to all tax credits? Never in my life have I seen or used Schedule 8812.

It is new this year.  They have to ask everyone incase you got any of the Advance Child Tax Credit.  Just enter 0 or 0.00 and finish the section.

So, everyone got this check, even if they said "no" to the tax credit in the dialog?

Yes, everyone is asked this question. The IRS wants all taxpayers to answer the question, whether you have children or not. Enter zero (0) and continue with the onscreen interview until complete.  This should correct your return.

  • Do not run Smart Check again after entering the 0's on the 8812.
