Turbotax Deluxe

I was trying to amend my tax return for 2023, it told me that I needed Turbotax Deluxe and added it to my cart. I can't amend my return now without paying $70 for something I dont want.

You do not mention what you are trying to change when you are amending.  If you are adding information that requires a higher version of the software, then you do have to pay for the upgrade.   What are you changing?

When I filed my taxes, I checked that someone could claim me as a dependent. After talking to my parents about it, they're not able to claim me as a dependent so I need to change that.

@shawnahorty That change does not require an upgrade.  And...you might not even need to bother amending for that.   If you say that no one else can claim you, will you be entering information for an education credit?   A retirement saver credit?   Trying to claim a dependent of your own?    Anything else?   

If not, do not bother amending since it will have no effect on your tax due or refund.

Well, when I went in and changed my choice, it was giving me more back for my refund. Can my parents file their taxes even if I don’t amend mine?

Yes your parents can e-file.  If you said you could NOT be claimed as a dependent and they tried to claim you ---their return would be rejected.  But the reverse does not happen.   You do not block them from e-filing by saying that you can be claimed.

You say that your refund increased when you changed the answer in My Info to say you cannot be claimed----you can decide if you want to pay the extra fee to upgrade if the higher refund is worth it.  We do not know what else changed when you changed your answer about being claimed, since we cannot see your information.
