I was prompted today 2/23/2021 to update Turbotax business 2020. Says these updates are critical and necessary. Program will NOT open up without completing the updates. Click proceed and the updates error out. The error states "failed to install update. microsoft installer error: 1603, fatal error during installation. (Released 2/19/2021 Program Updates) Clicking the "check for solution link" - shows no solution. I have subsequently tried to manually install the 2020 R 17 update. Directions in this link. https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/updating/help/manually-update-turbotax-business-software/00/25794 This did not work either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Contacted phone support.... No luck. The person read from a script and sent me this link:
None of these items worked. Im going to try to install on another machine today. Business taxes are due on 3/15 - don't have a lot of time to waste on this.
About 5 days after my original post and after trying everything in the attached articles where nothing worked - this problem magically self-corrected itself. I just tried the software for the hell of it and it opened and prompted for updates and it updated.
NOW, while using the software on 3/5/2021 I get to the point of submitting a return - It wants to check for updates and you guessed it, SAME PROBLEM! Update errors out. From what I can see it appears a new update was release on 3/4/2021
This is beyond frustrating .......
I am having same problem. I ran the recommended manual update but still get prompted for updates which continue to fail every time.
I have same issue as described by others. Tried disabling antivirus with no success. Like other people my tax is due tomorrow. it fails when I launch into the submit routines. Intuit support is profoundly poor and pathetic attitude to customer service.
Another update here....
I have changed NOTHING on my pc. I randomly tried to run Turbotax Business again and low and behold, guess what.... UPDATES INSTALLED SUCCESSFULLY! Hmmmmmmm..... Absolutely no updates or changes to my pc - yet I wasted HOURS trying all of their suggested fixes. The Update now tells me that it installed a 3/12 update. I am again operational today at 3/16.
For those following the thread, I did this to hedge my bets. I got another Windows 10 machine. Disabled any windows updates and installed Turbotax 2020 to that machine. It is my understanding that you are permitted to install turbotax on 5 machines per the license agreement. After installing, I mapped a drive to my workstation that stopped working so that I could access the old tax returns to import / transfer the old ones. I also installed Quickbooks on this laptop and use the customer file located on the pc to transfer the data from the QB file to the current years tax return. This does require a bit of knowledge on how to map drives and setup a small peer to peer network to access your data. So far this has worked for me and I am hoping to be done using this software very soon.
The support and information on this issue is VERY poor and this will more than likely push me to look for a new product next year.
