Turbotax 2025 not ready to be used !! on Dec.2025

I brought Turbotax 2025 online on 11/30/2025 and thought I can pre-plan on my tax return before 12/31/2025 in case I need/can do some tax/income adjustment.

After install onto my PC, I am really disappointed that the software is NOT ready to be use at all. Most of the basic stuff is not allow to input. And not date is given as to when will it be available. I can't input anything into it.

Intuit shouldn't sell product that is not complete and useless!

I agree with you, but unfortunately the software is always useless until at least the mid-December update (I think this year is scheduled for December 17th).  And even then, many things won't be functional and accurate until January (and a few things not until February or even March).

@alau52 folks have been suggesting this calculator, not tried it myself yet but maybe this will work for you in the meantime

It seems that you like to make this comment and perhaps didn't read my response to you in another thread where you claim TT is still using 2024 "numbers".

2025 software mostly uses the 2024 numbers until AT LEAST the mid-December update

What gave you that idea? What numbers are you talking about? The 2025 tax brackets, deductions, even much of the OBBB changes (including the extended senior deduction) were in the initial public release around the first of November.

When I first move estimates into TT, I compare with Dinkytown (where I do estimates prior to TT release) and did not find any discrepancy.

I've been using TT for end of the year estimates since the 1990s.

While it is certainly true that the forms aren't finalized or approved by the IRS, and there are certain areas (such as handling complex qualified distributions) that aren't fully functional yet, and of course a few bugs, the assertion that "the numbers" are from 2024 is just wrong. For the most common numbers such as tax brackets and things indexed to inflation, the TY2025 numbers were finalized by the IRS over a year ago.

I'm pretty bummed about this.  Are there any other brands of tax prep software that allows early December work?

To Turbo Tax -- Can't you just use 2024 forms (with the published 2025 brackets) so folks can estimate and plan for year end moves?  I understand these are just estimates and you can disclaimer.

@user17647276844   Yes you should use the 2024 program to estimate 2025 using the What-If worksheet and clicking the box to use 2025 tax rates.  I'm still using that to make my 2025 estimates.  It even has the increase to the SALT deduction limit.  Don't know about the Senior enhanced 6,000 deduction, I don't qualify.  But if something isn't there you can work around by adjusting another entry.

Wow! I don't understand the angst around using the TY2025 software to work on year-end estimates. I think you are confusing forms availability and suitability for filing with having the calculations in place for estimating.

The 2025 tax rates/brackets were finalized in October 2024. The TY2025 released early November had the OBBB changes (SALT changes, enhanced senior deduction) known since early July 2025. There are missing elements of Step-By-Step at this point, but for estimates it is just fine.

If seeking an alternative, or just want verification, I'd recommend Dinkytown and/or Glenn Reeve's spreadsheet, both of which are a lot more up-to-date than TT 2024.

Completely agree!! I came here to post about this. I bought Ttax a few weeks ago for the planning idea, to my surprise, it is useless!! I ended up going to FreeTaxUSA site, I could enter over 90% of my info and get an estimate immediately!! Wow, wish I could get my money back on Ttax......

Were you using forms mode, or trying to do the complete step-by-step? I've never found any significant limitation in using forms mode for estimates.

I'm not familiar with FreeTaxUSA, but is that an interview step-by-step, or do you go directly to forms?

I am on an automatic subscription.  I downloaded Turbotax 2025 onto my iMac.  I couldn't install it.  I got the error message that it was incompatible with the OS operating system.  I have the most up-to-date OS operating system on my computer.

Do you have Sonoma 14?    2024 & 2025 Turbo Tax Desktop Download System Requirements. For 2025 you will need Windows 11 or later or Mac OS Sonoma 14 or later (newer). Click on the 2025 tab at the top.

Hello! I was trying to enter stuff in TurboTax like HSA contributions, IRA contributions, ACA info. ALL said available soon! I was not in form mode, I will check that out today.

FreetaxUSA is a website that you fill in your info and get instant results! Great for planning. This is the first year that I have used it.

@risperling if you have the most up to date OS on your Mac but you can't install TT that probably means it's stopped upgrading on Mac OS 13 (Ventura), in which case Apple is basically no longer supporting your computer as the latest OS you can download is out of support (v13 went out of support in Nov which is why Intuit dropped support also).

I survived with an iMac for a couple of years on an out of date OS (and did my taxes for a year on a laptop until upgrading), the risk is up to you, you'll not be getting an OS or security updates and other 3rd parties like Microsoft and Adobe will stop sending you updates also.  For taxes you can either try HRB that does provide support for older OS versions, or switch to an online service such as Turbotax Online or FreeTaxUSA.  For 2025 Intuit should be offering for you to switch from desktop to Online Premier version for no extra cost for Fed (state maybe extra - check smallprint), this offer should come up when you try to install it - tho I'm not sure if anything different for Advantage.

The other option is to explore a HW upgrade to get to the latest MacOS version, I have found the Mac mini with 3rd party monitors to be a good replacement for more expensive iMac.
