Turbo tax is not calculating the city of detroit taxes withheld from my w2 on my city of detroit return. How do I add that so I am not charged a penalty?

Check your W-2. TurboTax will not pick up local withholding unless Box 20 has the correct locality. In local taxes, the Associated State should be Michigan and the Locality name should be Detroit.

To get back to your W-2

• Type w-2 in Search (magnifying glass) in the upper right
• Select Jump to W-2
• On the screen "Your W-2 info so far" select EDIT next to your W-2

All of my entries for the City of Detroit withholding was done as per instructions, however Turbotax is not preparing the Schedule W - city of Income tax withholding to attach as part of the return.

I know this is years later but I stumbled on this thread and figured it out for my problem in 2025, so I'm just leaving this here in case it helps anybody else like me in the future, since it took me HOURS to figure it out (and Intuit provides literally zero technical support). 

The automatic import of my W-2 filled in the city locality as "DTRT" which TurboTax does not recognize. I had to edit the W-2 in TurboTax and replace "DTRT" with "Detroit", which then calculated the withholding correctly.
