I just got a email msg from TT saying if I don't file my returns by 28 Feb the cost goes up! How can they charge me more when I already paid? I purchased TT Deluxe with State from Amazon. How can they charge me more? AND....they don't even say what the increase in price will be! I'm going to switch to someone else next year. It seems like for the past 3 yrs or so they have pulled some switcheroo! Why don't they tell you this up-front before you buy so you can plan better? I don't have all the docs I need to file yet! BOO! HISS!

I believe that the message was related to those folks that use the online turbotax. I don't recall ever being charged more after purchasing the latest year and filing, no matter when I sent it in. Maybe it's related to efiling? Just a thought but I hope that helps a little. I have been using Turbotax since the 1990s? Not sure the exact start time but for sure the last 20 years. Good Luck on getting your paperwork completed!
You may want to make sure you are reading the fine print on the TurboTax website. While it may include a free state, additional fees apply for e-filing state returns ($24.99.)

Why am I being charged if I bought the $69 version with free state filing
You may want to read my post again TT specialist..... I didn't say anything about the efile cost. My complaint is/was I was sent an email saying if I don't file by 28 Feb, the cost goes up. How can the cost go up when I already paid for the cd/download for my computer? If the email only apply's to the on-line version why don't they make it cyrstal clear in the mass emailing that the cd/download versions for desktop are not affected by the cost increase?
Yes in the Desktop installed program there are 2 fees that can go up. It is $20 to efile a state return (including the first one) which goes up to $25 or you can print and mail state for free.
And if you need to buy a second state program download for a different state.
In the Desktop program you get one free state PROGRAM download to prepare unlimited state returns. Then each state return (including the first one) is $20 to efile, usually goes up to $25 March 1. Or you can print and mail state for free.
Is is not really clear what the additional cost is for. It seems it may be to efile a state return. I am under the impression that there cannot be a fee to efile an IRS return. New York State does not permit a fee to efile. Also interesting that this additional fee applies only to the online version.
