I made qualified charitable distributions (QCD) from an IRA. I changed box 2A to reflect the Box1 amount less the QCD.
The amount in Box 1 is trasnferred to form 1040 instead of the amount in Box 2A. If i removed the & from Box 7, i.e. no entry, and then reslect 7 for Box 7, the value in Box 2a gets correctly transferred to the 1040.
I can replicate this behavior.
I suggest there is a bug in the form. I am running version 024.000.0272 on Windows 11 Pro.

My QCD works right. Do not change box 2a. After you enter the 1099R you have to keep going through all the follow up questions and get to a screen asking if you made a Charity Donation.

Thank you VolvoGirl.
I used the Step By Step Format and it does work correctly. It puts the amount of the QCD in section 13 of the 1099-R and includes it in the value shown on 1040 line 4b
I appreciate your speedy and accurate response.
I have been a Volvo guy since 1999.
Cheers
Whoa. What is section 13? And it should be on 1040 line 4a and not included in 4b. Did you mistype that?
HI
The reference to Section 13 of the 1099-R is the 1099-R worksheet visible when using the forms view rather than step by step in TT2024 desktop for windows. 1040 4a shows Box 1 amount on the from the 1099-R. 1040 Line 4b shows the Box 2 amount on the from the 1099-R less the QCD amount.
