Transfer of TT Desktop information from 2022 to 2023

When filing my 2023 tax return I am presented with the following question...

Did you take the standard deduction last year, or did you itemize your deductions?

Considering I imported my 2022 TT Desktop tax return when starting my 2023 TT Desktop return, I am not sure why it is asking this question.  Is there a reason why it is asking me this question?  Did I miss something during the import or is this just expected behavior?

TurboTax will always choose the deduction option that seems to provide the best advantage for the taxpayer.

However, there are situations where the taxpayer will choose to file the deductions a different way.  E.G. Married filling separate.

Therefore, TurboTax is only confirming the deduction option the you selected.

Please see: How do I change from the standard deduction to itemized (or vice-versa)?

To clarify the question was asked when trying to determine whether my State refund I received from last year's taxes was taxable or not,

so TT asked about last year not this year.

My 2022 taxes were already filed so the answer is already known to TT.

TT already knows that I claimed the standard deduction in 2022 so there should be no reason to ask.

Audits can happen, life can change, so the program will ask questions when changes can happen. Better to be safe and ask!

I have to disagree.   TT at the least should had stated "You claimed the standard deduction last year. Is this still the case?" This is not the only instance where TT did not supply the information from a previous tax form.  In another instance TT had asked, what was the refund I received from my State return last year.  Instead of just supplying the information and allowing me to confirm I now have to look it up.  TT is becoming a program that over the years was getting more convenient to now becoming less convenient.
