If your W-2 has an amount in Box 12 but no code you will need to contact your employer and tell them that Box 12 does not have a code when it has a dollar amount. They will need to issue a corrected W-2 either to remove the amount or include a code for the amount. You should wait for an answer from your employer before filing your return.
Boxes 12 a,b,c,d. Don't have a code or dollar amount what to do
Don't enter anything into TurboTax if there are no amounts on your W-2 for Boxes 12 a, b, c, and d.
The W-2 layout includes four boxes (12a, 12b, 12c and 12d) so employers can enter up to four W-2 codes and amounts. Some people have nothing in Box 12. Other people have four boxes filled in.
If your Box 12 is blank, move on to the next section.
I dont have any code no an amount. But in the system of a W-4 form that says Do Not File theres an amount in that form on Box 12. What should I do then and I haven't already contacted employer and the Help Support services of the company where I'm getting the run around.
Are you talking about a W-2 or a W-4? You don't add a W-4 to your return.
So, I login to my Savers portal and it shows a W-2 form under the Pay>Tax and Wages Statements where my W2 form is at. And it shows me everything that I need to file you know. But logging into the system that my company uses to show our pay, time card, accrual and theres a section in the Pay feature at the bottom that says W-4, I click on that there's nothing but my name, company name and then the box 12 as an amount on there but the it's on big letters like a watermark Do Not File. So, I am confused.
The W-4 is used between you and your employer to determine the appropriate amount of withholding for you. But you don't need it for your tax return, so you can ignore it now.
Oh Okay, so I can still file my 2024 tax without it for now and then IRS would confirm with employer or how does that work?
Yes, you can file your return. Enter your W-2 exactly how it appears; you don't need to do anything with the W-4 from your employer's portal. How do I enter my W-2?
