@TatTBTX support for crypo aggregator services is missing on downloadable version. Online version supports aggregators such as cointracker.
@shashireddy did you try importing directly from your tool or uploading a CSV? I'm doing the latter since the program I use is not supported in the online version, but the CSV does a good job of getting around that.
I see now in another discussion that crypto is not an option in the download version, and only a hacky workaround seems to do the trick if you have a CSV. The other suggestions of starting online and then finishing in the app don't work for those of us who are locked out of our accounts.
In Brief : Online version does have issues due to handling of several entries on their infrastructure running on AWS. Once locked out, I could not figure a way out.
NOTE : This is not a tax advice , neither am I a certified financial planner nor a CPA)
I did the below instead, to file taxes.
1. Downloaded the PC version of the turbotax. Checked the box for transacting virtual currencies. i.e.
At any time during 2021, did you receive, sell, exchange, or otherwise dispose of any financial interest in any virtual currency. -> YES
2. Chose a coin aggregator (i.e Koinly , Interestingly, I found a coupon code when I opened Koinly website from my phone, not from a PC though. Any other crypto aggregator will also do too, not just Koinly).
3. Synced all my crypto accounts/wallets to Koinly crypto aggregation platform. Paid the Koinly fee, and downloaded the Turbotax CD/DVD report file, which ends with a suffix (.txf)
4. Turbtax had an option to import the .txf file . Import -> "from TXF files" upper left hand corner (on a Mac).
5. I imported the .txf file and all the crypto transactions appeared. Then, I reverified and filed.
Again this is not a Tax advice. Your situation may be different, please consult a certified financial planner or a certified CPA for any clarifications.
@shashireddy appreciate this workaround (and point taken about not being financial advice). Thanks for taking the time to write that out for everyone struggling with this issue
I have a similar issue. When I try to transmit my return, I get the, (your tax form cannot be transmitted.) no avenues available to seek out help. SMH
Anyone tried corporate yet.
Tried TurboTax again on the 6th. And wala, it worked.
turbotax is back!
I have been having the same problem for three days! When I try to ask for assistance I get a screen that me post is not authenticated. I'm getting really frustrated and yes I have done everything that they have recommended.
@dlsmith402 There are several problems here - if you aren't locked out of your account then delete the 1099-B that you imported and enter summary totals. Your 1099-B is what's locking you up.
If you are locked out of your account and can't delete your 1099-B and adjust it then you need to contact TurboTax customer support.
Here is a link to the TurboTax Phone Number.
Interesting—after years and years,
Today is 2/20/2025, and it's still the same problems, the same solutions, and the same answers. Nobody can fix the issues, and in the end… oops!
Unbelievable!
