How much are your Itemized Deductions? The questions I've seen turn out that the Standard Deduction + the extra 300 for charity is more than your Itemized Deductions . Check 1040 line 10b.
Thanks VolvoGirl for replying. The confusing thing is that a couple different screens appeared to be telling me different things. One page had me taking the itemized route. Then during the summary review later on it was showing that I'm in fact taking the standard deduction.
I don't know how to check 1040 line 10b. I'm using the on-line version these days (due to my computer being too ancient to support using the downloaded version any longer...operating system is too old). The downloaded version provided the ability to flip the screen so to speak and see the worksheets and forms for any given page I was currently working through. I do miss that feature. The on-line version apparently doesn't provide that ability. I don't see anything on the screen to click to take me behind the scenes to see worksheets and forms.
When I was prompted through the first run-through of the review, there was an item needing further review and input relating to charitable donations. The only answer accepted in the box that was highlighted was 300 so as to satisfy the question and make it go away. My actual total charitable donations are over 4,000, but I didn't see that number anywhere on the actual worksheet (which I no longer seem to have access to). I suspected this is where the problem originated. But I have seemingly no way to get back to the actual form or worksheet and delete the 300 number I entered. It doesn't make sense, especially since I had turbotax simply transfer all the data from itsdeductible for charitable donations. I was surprised that there was any reason to ask about charitable donations anyway since it was straightforward, or so I believed.
VolvoGirl,
I replied earlier. Since then I've been clicking everything I could and did find the forms and worksheets, finally. So I see them and attempted to do QuickZoom (which I remember from the downloaded versions). But alas, QuickZoom doesn't respond. So I see values in both 1040 lines 10a and 10b. That doesn't seem quite correct somehow, since it should be one or the other. There doesn't seem to be a method to fix the inaccuracy, other than to clear and start over which seems crazy just for this issue, especially since I'm finished with it except for this annoying problem. Sounds like an IT technical issue to solve the software bug. Thanks for reading.
