Will I need to provide a state ID to efile my 2016 tax return?

Last year the turbotax program asked me to provide a state identification to efile my 2015 tax return. The request was optional, for 2016 will it be mandatory?

A few states require ID.  

On top of that, the IRS was requesting that tax prep companies collect ID from everyone. This was optional.  We have no word yet if the IRS is making this mandatory.

You would have to check with your state tax department to find out if they have added a specific ID requirement this year.
