Why is it that the TurboTax instructions say:
"To file your taxes with TurboTax, you do not need to provide a telephone number. However, TurboTax may ask for your phone number as a way to verify your identity or to provide customer support. If you do not want to provide your phone number, you can skip that step and continue with filing your taxes."
But it will not let you file without including a telephone number? Is it just a straight up lie to for them to say you do not need to provide a number? In that case, why would I trust them with my financial information?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
A telephone number on the tax return is not required. However, TurboTax requires the number to e-file a tax return. You can enter any phone number you want that has a valid US area code, such as (202) 222-2222
Does the IRS require my telephone number to e-file
