Taxes as a resident with J1 Visa

Hi there, I am an au pair, (I have a J1 Visa) but I have been before in the country with a J1 Visa too, so now I am considered as a resident for tax purposes, the point is that I don´t have a house, I am not a student, I don't have family here, I don’t own a car, so I don't know what tax breaks I must fill. I only have my salary, and I received it in cash

If you are a resident alien for tax purposes (see IRS Publication 519 for the qualifications) you will file Form 1040, which you can do with TurboTax.

If you do not obtain a W-2 from your employers for your au pair work, you will need to file a Schedule C to report the income from your au pair work as self-employed income.  In addition to any income tax you might owe, you will owe self-employment tax (social security and Medicare taxes) on "net" income over $400.

If you have expenses to deduct, you will need TurboTax Online Self-Employed. If you do not have expenses to deduct, you can use TurboTax Online Deluxe.  If you use the TurboTax Download/CD product, you will need either the Deluxe or Home and Business versions, depending on what kind of Schedule C expenses you deduct.  If you start with the lower price product, you can upgrade to higher-priced version if you need it.

Note that if you are considered a "Household Employee", your employers should have sent you a Form W-2 and pai....

I tried to follow your instructions, but I was said that TurboTax doesn't support Form 1040.

Do you have more information?

TurboTax does support Form 1040. When you log into TurboTax all the form options available will be for Form 1040.

Taxes as a resident with J1 Visa

I have a J1 Visa (I am au pair) but  I am deemed a US resident for tax purposes  because I have been in the country before with J1 Visa as wellDoes someone know how I can do my tax refund? I was said I can't use TurboTax because of my J1 Visa but, I can't use Sprintax either due to my status as a resident for tax purposes.

Is there another program I can use?

If you have a J-1 Visa you are not allowed to count the days toward the  Substantial Presence Test to be designated as a resident alien for a period of two calendar years from the date you entered the U.S..

Even if you still are on a J-1 visa, but have been in the United States in 2017 and 2018, you can count the days in 2019. You are considered a resident alien for tax purposes for the 2019 tax year.

Because you are a Resident Alien for tax purpose in 2019 you can file a Form 1040 and use TurboTax to file your return. You do not need to use Sprintax when filing this year.
