Top Solutions to Fix the Startup Error
Many thanks]!!! Worked perfectly!!! Happy, Happy, Happy!!!
I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER INSTALLATION I TRIED TO OPEN AND IT GAVE ME A MESSAGE
"LOOKS LIKE WE'VE RUN INTO AN ERROR........"
same problem
After installation, TurboTax goes online, so try enabling LAN in the icon in front of the URL address in your browser.
You could also try a Manual Update.
Thank you!!
You are most WELCOME!!! 😁
This seems to be a Microsoft issue. It is also affecting Adobe products. Same error: the program will not open. Same Fix:
To repair Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables on Windows 11, open Control Panel > Programs and Features (appwiz.cpl), locate the packages, right-click each one, select Change, and click Repair. It is recommended to repair all versions (starting with the newest) and restart your computer afterward, but you find it is one of the 2015 redistributions.
We had do do this on all the office computers to get InDesign to open.
Modify works too.
just go to your last year return and open it. It may not open but will be doing something. Then close it and start TURBOTAC and it should work now hopefully.
I DID THIS AND THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED.
GOODLUCK
Turbo Tax Desktop stopped opening for me. I have spent several hours with Turbo Tax Support and together we have run through all of the troubleshooting steps. TT Support finally sent my case to their investigations department 4 days ago, but I have had no further communication with them. Unfortunately, my tax return was almost done and the problem cropped up when I tried to open TT to finalize and file it.
Have any of you been able to solve the problem?
I am running Windows 11 and all of my other software is running fine.
Use the C++ fix earlier in the thread. It worked for me.
It’s like the 14th reply on this thread (by azureduck88). You do not need to hit uninstall, just modify and repair for all instances of C++ then reboot.
The first 3 or 4 Intuit support staff did not know about this. Crazy!
You have to:
1. Fully update your windows software and then
2. Update Visual C++ to version 14
Thanks for the info and the link!
As a possibility you may have the same issue that I had, and the solution was corrupted or missing Microsoft C** extensions that prevented updating the application.
Here are the exact steps that solved the problem:
Use Windows “Add or Remove Programs” to remove TurboTax Premier 2025.
Do not reuse an old installer. Go back to the retailer or download site where you originally purchased TurboTax and download a fresh copy.
When I did this, the installer immediately detected that required Microsoft Visual C++ modules were missing.
The installer handled this automatically.
After the C++ modules were installed, TurboTax installed cleanly and worked perfectly.
After reinstalling with the correct dependencies:
TurboTax updated normally
No errors
No manual patch needed
No leftover “Updating” folder
It even auto‑activated using my previous product ID
Everything worked on the first try after the reinstall.
If the Microsoft C++ runtime is damaged or missing, none of the usual troubleshooting steps will fix the updater. A clean reinstall that forces TurboTax to reinstall its required C++ components is the real solution
