Stimulus letter from the IRS

I messed up last year when I filed my taxes.  It was involving the Stimulus question.  It all worked out and my refund arrived late, but I got it.

So I don't want a repeat this year.  I received two Stimulus payments in 2021.  One early in January and the second one in March.  The letter I received yesterday from the IRS only mentions the March payment.  I file jointly, so my wife received a letter too, but the two amounts listed totaled up to the correct amount.

My concern is that I never received an IRS letter for the first payment.  I have filed yet, so I wanted to make sure I did it right.

I also received a stimulus payment in April of 2020.  Will that info be addressed in my 2021 tax filing?

Thanks so much for your help.

Stimulus letter from the IRS

Letter 6475 is only for the 3rd EIP payment.   That was the payment for $1400 per person.   Make sure you enter the amount from that letter correctly in the recovery rebate credit section.   You and your spouse should each receive a letter.   If you both got the $1400 then you should not end up with an amount on line 30 of your 2021 Form 1040---so check it before you file.

Thank you.  So the payment we received in January, 2021 ($600 for each of us) will not be addressed on 2021 tax forms?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I can't see the forms until I file and I want to be prepared.  Last year was a nightmare.

Thanks again.

No.   You do not enter anything about the 1st or 2nd stimulus payment(s) on your 2021 return.   You only answer the questions about the 3rd stimulus payment----the one for $1400.

Thank you so much!

Too bad the IRS didn't feel it necessary to make this clear in their letter.  I can't be the only one who going to get confused.

Thanks again.  Once again, this community saves my bacon.  I don't know what I'd do without you guys and girls.
