Yes. There will be a Recovery Rebate Credit when filing your 2021 return.
no!
@CatinaT1 - re-read the question!!!! he did not ask specifically about the 3rd stimulus payment.
to get the recovery credit related to the first two stimulus payments, you MUST file 2020,. The first two stimulus were 'advance payments for 2020'. That also means if you do not file by May 17, 2024, you forfeit the credit.
you can only get the recovery credit for the 3rd stimulus payment on your 2021 tax return
I was asking about the 2nd and 3rd stimulus checks... thanks
Does anyone know if I can get the last 2 checks if i dint file until next year?
you must file 2020 no later than May 17, 2024 to get the 1st or 2nd stimulus payments.
you must file 2021 no later than April 15, 2025 to get the 3rd stimulus payment
Filing your 2021 tax return will not get you the 1st or 2nd stimulus payments. It doesn't work that way.
does that help?
Not sure... I received 1st stimulus check , but the 2nd and 3rd I will get when I file my taxes... So, what your saying is that I dont have to file a tax return this year to get those checks? I can wait years? .. thanks
that is correct, but note closely which tax returns go with which stimulus
the way the IRS works is if you are owed a refund you have three years from the tax deadline to submit the tax return, so for 2020, the tax deadline is May 17, 2021, so the three years expires on May 17, 2024. after that date you will not get the refund.
if you owe money, there is no deadline, you always owe it.
if you are due a refund, why wouldn't you submit it now?
