if turbo tax messed up and put that i was a student (which I’m not) and marked that i could be claimed as a dependent will i not qualify for the check? Even if I wasn’t claimed?
You'll need to sign in or create an account to connect with an expert.
You had to either select or not select in the My Info section for your personal information if you were being claimed as a dependent.
A dependent is not eligible for a stimulus payment.
Look at your federal tax return Form 1040 to see if the dependent box was checked.
To access your current or prior year online tax returns sign onto the TurboTax website with the userID you used to create the account - https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and on the section Your tax returns & documents click on Show. Click on the Year and Click on Download/print return (PDF)

You tell TurboTax if you ware a student of not and you answer the question if you *can* be a dependent. If you can be then it is immaterial if you are actually claimed or not - you would not be eligible for the stimulus.
So Is there any way to change that? Or is mailing an amendment the only way? Cause I know it says it will take about 12 weeks
Amending is the ONLY way.
You should *wait* until your return has been processed and you receive your refund or conformation that any tax due has been paid. (If you file an amended return while you first return is being processed it can cause extended delays for both returns if two returns are in the system at the same time). In addition, if the IRS makes any change on your original return, you might end up having to amend the amendment – a sticky process that can take a year or more).
-- Then you can start the amend process.
-- Amended returns can only be mailed - allow 8-12 weeks - can take up to 16 weeks (4 months) for processing.
***************************************NOTE***********************************************
Amended returns can take up to 16 weeks (4 months) to process in normal times but due the the Corona virus shutdown the IRS is not even opening mailed returns at this time and just storing them so the 16 weeks will not even start until the IRS returns to normal - whenever that will be - and there will be a huge backup of mail.

The only way to change your dependency on the 2019 tax return is to amend the 2019 tax return.
An amended tax return, Form 1040X, can only be printed, signed, dated and mailed by you to the IRS, it cannot be e-filed. The IRS will take up to 4 months or longer to process the amended tax return. Wait until you have received the tax refund or the taxes owed have been paid and processed by the IRS before amending the tax return.

See this TurvrboTax support FAQ for amending a 2019 tax return - https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/tax-topics/help/how-do-i-amend-a-2019-return-in-turbotax/01/123845...
But wait there's more ... there is no guarantee that amending the 2019 return will get you the stimulus check this year ... however on the 2020 return you file there will be a reconciliation so if you did not get the advance credit you will get it on the 2020 return.
