SSA BENEFITS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

I HAVE A 18 YEAR OLD SON WHO IS IN HIGHSCHOOL AND RECEIVED SSA BENEFITS FOR $12,000.  HE HAS NO OTHER INCOME.   DOES HE NEED TO FILE A TAX RETURN?

SSA BENEFITS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

No your son does not have to file a tax return unless he receives any other income--from an after school job etc, nor do you put his income on your own return.

If he gets any sort of job or additional income during 2020, he will file a 2020 return which will need to include the SSA1099.
