I was lied to over the phone being told i needed to pay for the deluxe when all im doing is standard deductions how do i get back to the free edition

i called in to discuss free options for filing this year, i explained to rep that standard deduction is all i need this year, due to financial hardship of job loss i was inquiring about discounts i could receive for lower income as i read about it online, she pretended  to help me but was trying to scam me to use the premiere which was even more$$ i explained yet again that all i need is the free edition and i need help starting it as it keeps trying to get me to select deluxe but again i told her im not itemizing this year and i need help getting this free edition as i cannot afford anything else, she kept putting me on hold and then it just hung up after 45 minutes, im truly discusted by the treatment i recieved and false information, ive filed with you for the past 8 years i should be treated fairly instead im being ripped of, ive spent hours with my taxes and noe they are complete i refuse to pay for a service that was not needed, please advise how we can resolve this so i can get them files asap please

Sorry you had a bad experience.  I'll report it to the moderator.  But the version you need to use is based on what kind of income you have not only if you want to Itemize Deductions.

In the regular Turbo Tax Free Edition, information that you can enter is limited now.  Under the new tax laws, there are no more simple Form 1040EZ or 1040A's.  Everything goes on a little Form 1040 that has six extra "schedules" with it, and if you need any of those schedules, you are not able to use the Free Edition.

If you want to go back to the Free Edition you can Clear and Start Over

Or There is also The Turbo Tax Free File program which is free for federal and state.  And has more forms than the Federal Free Edition, like Schedules A, B, C , D, E, F, EIC, H, K-1, SE,  etc.

NOTE:  You will have to setup a new account with a new username and new password or it will take you back to regular Turbo Tax.

To qualify for the Free File website  you just need to meet one of these 3 things
AGI $34,000 or less
Active duty military with AGI of $66,000 or less
OR qualify for EIC (earned income credit.)

In order to use the Free File program, you have to start it at a special website.  Click on the bottom Orange button I Qualify Start Now and set up a NEW account

The new "simplified" 1040 form for 2018 is now the only 1040 form.  The old 1040, 1040A and 1040EZ have all been replaced with the new 1040 and 6 new schedules for additional items that are transfer to the new 1040.

The TurboTax Free Edition only supports the basis new 1040 form and not any additional schedules.   If schedules are needed then  Deluxe or higher will be required depending on which schedule and types of income you have.

The Free TurboTax edition has always only supported the simplest tax form and no additional schedules.  In the past there were several items that could be reported on the 1040EZ that the IRS has now eliminated and placed on an additional schedule.

Many users that used the Free Edition in the past can no longer do so because of those changes that now require Deluxe or higher.

However, if your income is under $33,000 you might be able to use the Freedom Edition for that supports all states and most forms including the new schedules.

The Freedom Edition is part of the IRS Free File alliance and is totally separate from TurboTax website.

How do I switch to TurboTax Freedom Edition?
