Slot winnings.

I never worked a day in my life.. In 2019 I got lucky and won big 1250.00... in NM and won 2750.00 in CO. I got w2g from both winnings. I did not have the taxes withheld.  I never did taxes before.  Do I have to do taxes just for my w2g winnings? even though I don't have any other income coming In?

What state do you live in?

New Mexico requires you to report any gambling winnings that exceed $1200 in a tax year. The threshold could be $1500 though, as it depends on "exactly" how you gambled. See http://realfile.tax.newmexico.gov/FYI-245%20WITHHOLDING%20ON%20GAMBLING%20WINNINGS.pdf

For Colorado, you're required to pay state taxes on anything over $600 on sports bets, and $1200 on other bets, and $1500 on Kino. See https://www.playcolorado.com/taxes/

What form do I need to file non-resident for New Mexico, since I am residing in Texas

You’ll file Form 2021 PIT-1, which is used by Residents, Non-Residents, First-Year Residents and Part-Year Residents.

You need to file if:

  • You have income from New Mexico sources, and
  • You’re required to file a federal income tax return.

Please see the Instructions for 2021 PIT-1 for more information.
