Sizeable amount in "Other Taxes" in final federal tax calculation

Hi,

I see a figure greater than $7000 listed in "Other Taxes" row of my 1040 form.

Based on the answer in this post, the only category that applies to me should be NIIT - which should be nowhere this high. Would it be possible to get the breakdown of how this "Other Taxes" value is calculated - I'm using Desktop Premium version.

Other taxes is listed on your 1040 line 23.

They are identified on Schedule 2 line 21.

You can view Schedule 2 before you file your taxes.

From the left sidebar

  1. Select Tax tools
  • You may have to minimize both the Federal and State options by clicking the Down Arrows on the Sidebar.
  • You will then clearly see Tax Tools
  • Click the arrow to up to see additional options
  1. Click Tools
  2. A Menu will pop up
  3. Select View tax summary
  4. On the left panel click Preview my 1040

Continue to scroll down the page

  • Schedule 1 will come up first
  • and then Schedule 2
  • Other taxes are identified on lines 4 -18

On 1040 line 23?  You need to look at Schedule 2 to see what it is from.  Are you using Online Premium or the Desktop Premier program?  In Desktop switch to Forms mode and open Schedule 2.

Ah I see the full info mode + forms now (I thought only the quick 1040 summary was visible before filing), thanks very much!
