For a couple filing jointly, with an AGI of less than $150k in 2020 with an 8-year old dependent child, the first stimulus payment should be $2,900 ($1,200 + $1,200 + $500) and the second stimulus should be $1,800 ($600 x 3).
If you did not receive your first and/or second stimulus payment or if the amount received is not correct or if you did not receive the stimulus for a dependent child under age 17, you can claim it on your 2020 tax return as the Recovery Rebate Credit.
In TurboTax Online, to claim the Recovery Rebate credit please do the following:

Agreed, that's exactly what I thought... I did effectively receive only 2400 + 1200 from the IRS, and I have tried to claim the difference 2 times with TurboTax, but TurboTax insists that the values of 2400 + 1200 are correct for me... not sure why!
Ok, issue solved - in the Dependent section, she still had her ITIN instead of her SSN, so it wasn't considering her as a dependent.
Thank you!
What about a 17 year old dependent? She was in high school and had a part time job until her job was eliminated due to Covid. Neither she or I received a stimulus payment.
If your dependent was 17 as of December 31, 2020, she does not qualify for a stimulus payment. You can claim any stimulus payments you did not get when you file your 2020, but your 17-year-old dependent will not qualify. She can qualify you for the Head of Household status if applicable, and the Earned Income Credit, and the Other Dependent credit of $500, but not the Child Tax Credit or stimulus payments.
She can file a tax return to get her withholdings back from her part-time job - just make sure she indicates that she can be claimed on another tax return. @dvanderhart
