Should I type my spouse's occupation now or on December 31, 20XX?

My wife was unemployed during the whole tax year I am reporting for, but found a job after December 31. Which occupation should I report: unemployed or the current one?

The IRS only uses "occupation" for statistical purposes. It has no effect on your refund or tax due. If your spouse was unemployed for all of 2020 then "unemployed" makes sense.
