Should I itemize if I made $45000, single, no dependants, had $6000 taken out in taxes, plus received a $3000 Xmas bonus (after taxes) spent $2000 on work related tools?

The Xmas bonus was $4900 before taxes, and I spent $2000 on tools to do my job (I'm a machinist and I ordered calipers, micrometers, etc). I do not have receipts for the tools, however, I do have a spot on my check stubs that is for "tool loan". It's got a ytd amount, and I have my last check stub from last year.

If $2,000 is the only itemized deduction you have, then no, don't itemize. If you are filing single, you have to have more than your  standard deduction of $6,350. However, feel free to enter this and any other itemized deductions you may have, and TurboTax will choose either the Standard Deduction or Itemized Deductions, whichever gives you a bigger refund or less of an amount you owe.
