Should I claim myself as a dependent

I was told I could claim myself. Just wondering how true this was.

NO. You do not claim yourself as a dependent.  As the taxpayer on your tax return you receive a personal exemption of $4,050.  Just like any other taxpayer or dependent entered on your tax return.

What you were probably told is that you are not being claimed as a dependent on someone else's return so you do NOT mark that box in the personal info section  for being someone else's dependent.  By doing that you are getting your own personal exemption automatically or in layman's terms "you claimed yourself" ... you just do NOT enter yourself as a dependent in the dependent section as DoninGA said in his answer.
