It looks like you are referring to estimated tax payments. When you finished your tax return, and printed your return, did the printouts include 4 payment vouchers? Most likely for the same amount and payment dates April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 15?
If so, what you have on your hands are 4 vouchers for estimated tax payments. It doesn't mean the amount for this year was divided into four payments. Estimated Tax payments are payments you make toward next year's taxes.
What are federal estimated taxes?
If you didn't set to pay the full amount and included your routing and account number, you are still responsible to pay the amount owed for this year.
The four estimated tax vouchers are for next year (2025). TurboTax (TT) sees that you did not have tax withheld for 2024 and assumes the same thing will happen in 2025. So, it prepares the 2025 vouchers for quarterly estimated payments. It is optional whether you decide to use those. But, you risk an under payment penalty if you don't.
You should pay in quarterly estimated taxes if you don't have enough withholding taken out to cover the tax on all your income. You might be able to increase your W2 withholding, at your regular job, to account for the extra income.
You should make estimated tax payments for the current tax year if both of the following apply:
- 1. You expect to owe at least $1,000 in tax for the current tax year, after subtracting your withholding and credits.
- 2. You expect your withholding and credits to be less than the smaller of: 90% of the tax to be shown on your current year’s tax return, or 100% of the tax shown on your prior year’s tax return. (110% if your AGI was more than $150K) . Your prior year tax return must cover all 12 months.
TurboTax (TT) can prepare the quarterly payment vouchers. In your 2020 software, enter at:

If your goal is just to avoid the underpayment penalty, then paying 100% of the prior year tax liability is the “safe haven”
The Forms 1040-ES are 2024 TurboTax's suggested amounts for estimated tax payments for 2025. They have nothing to do with paying your balance due on your 2024 tax return.
when do i start paying the installments since turbo tax set it up for me? it doesn't have any dates on the vouchers
@jennvilla210 Are they the four 1040ES slips? Those are not for your tax due. They are ESTIMATED pre-payments for NEXT year so you don't owe so much again. They may have printed out if you had a 1 time large increase in income like taking a IRA or 401k distribution. They don't get sent with your return and the IRS won't be expecting them. They are optional to pay.
Your Tax Due should be on 1 voucher 1040V due on April 15, 2025.
