If you are going to still claim the child on your return your only option is to print, ink sign and mail in the entire return.

If you are going to take the child off the return and efile without them ...

To determine which of your Dependents was already claimed, you will need to look at your full Reject Code.  The last two digits of the Reject Code tells you which Dependent it was based on the order they are listed on your Form 1040

For example, Reject Code:

  • R0000-507-01 - The First Dependent listed on your Tax Return was already Claimed as a Dependent
  • R0000-507-02 - The Second Dependent listed on your Tax Return was already Claimed as a Dependent
  • R0000-507-03 - The Third Dependent listed on your Tax Return was already Claimed as a Dependent

The reject code showing that someone already claimed your dependent should contain a number such as -01 or -02 at the end of the code.  That number indicates the position of the rejected person.  If your code is -01, then it is the first dependent listed on your return; -02 means the second one listed, and so on.
