Saving .tax file

I receive the following message when trying to save last year's .tax file to my computer. "The file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action". How to proceed? Thank you.

Only the TurboTax software for 2018 can open the 2018 tax data file which has a file extension of .tax2018.

I have always done my taxes online using TurboTax. This year I purchased the cd at Costco. It is my understanding that I need to download my 2018 tax return to my computer but when I do that I get the following message...."The file does not have an app associated with it for performing this action". How do I get my previous year's information on this year's tax return?

The 2018 tax data file can only be transferred to the 2019 tax return and then only when a New Tax Return is started.  When you start a new 2019 tax return the program will search for any prior year tax data files in the Documents directory and in the TurboTax folder.  If none are found then browse to the location where you downloaded the tax data file.
