reporting properties in both names after spouse passes away.

Do rental properties owned by both of us on the estate form or just on the 1040?

Also when one property was just owned by one spouse but left to the surviving spouse, does the full amount go on the 1041 or split between the 1041 and 1040 when the deed was finalized into my name?

If your name was on it and it was left to you I wouldn't put it on a 1041 at all.  It should continue to be put on your form 1040 as it has been all along.

In fact, you should consult your attorney about filing a 1041 at all.  If your spouse has passed and left everything to you then there shouldn't be a need for an estate return.  Everything should pass smoothly to you.

My situation has a little more stuff so i did use help from Turbo tax. I did the 1041 even though I really didn't owe anything. Been doing taxes for a long time so I always try to solve things I can. Thanks for the help!
