Rejected 2019 return based on my deceased spouse's agi

Wow! unfortunately so many of us have the same issue. I received a REJECT for the same, not accepting my AGI and PIN #, OK on the pin Number, my husband passed in April 2021 but the AGI is the same as the 2020!! Now I've paid my fees like others have too, now I [we] have to mail these returns! I believe we need to be refunded! IJS!!!

In the Online versions the fees are to prepare the return whether you efile or print and mail.

Don't mail your return.  Go to FreeTaxUSA, fill in the same numbers as in your TurboTax forms and efile with FreeTax truly for free.  I can’t believe TurboTax hasn’t resolved this as it's been an issue with them for several years.  Happened to me 2 years ago. I followed this advice found in previous posts here and my return was immediately accepted.  Thanks for nothing, TurboTax, this is the very last aggravation  anyone dealing with the death of a spouse needs! You know it's a problem and years later are still giving out the same lame suggestions.   BTW,  after several phone calls, TT admitted it was an issue and refunded half my fee.  I’ve used FreeTax ever since.

FreeTaxUSA didn't work for me.  Rejected with the same message

In my case, I worked with the support specialist to resolve it last year.  You may need to do the same, I guess.  Best of luck

I agree that this is very frustrating.

The situation you are discussing is happening in our case with my husband still alive !  I am the Filer and I don't know under what circumstances the Spouse's AGI will be different when one is filing under " Married filing Jointly"  ??

My husband does not have an on-line account, as there was no need for him to do it since I am managing the interactions with IRS.  Until last year, we always filed paper; this year, I wanted to test e-filing to avoid the undue delay that IRS had for processing paper filing.  Little did I know, I have actually opened a can of worms, especially with the new requirements to register under ID.Me.  I am unable to order an IP PIN for him without his own on-line account.  It is a circular process, seems like.

Does anyone have a clue on how a Primary Filer can order an IP PIN for their Spouse?

With that done, I believe we can do e-filing without the AGI issue...

Thanks.

Please see the article here from the IRS which will assist you in obtaining an IP-PIN.

Rejected 2019 return based on my deceased spouse's agi

I was about to move on to FreeTaxUSA but thought I'd try two things first - the second of which appears to have worked.  I'm doing 2021 taxes for my parents filing jointly, my dad is the primary taxpayer and my mom passed away in Feb of 2022.  When I submitted via TurboTax my returns were rejected by Federal and VA (VA because Federal was rejected) with error of "IND-032-04 - 'SpousePriorYearPIN' or 'SpousePriorYearAGIAmt' in the Return Header must match the e-File database."44

The "fix" option in TurboTax asked for my Mom's AGI and the number pre-populated was correct for my parents' AGI for 2020 so I left that unchanged.  I went into the Forms view and on the form "Info Wks" added their filing PIN numbers in the blank lines for the "prior year PINS", and checked the box for neither driver's license or state ID for my Mom (because she had neither but TurboTax hadn't asked about her ID info).  On the "Personal Wks" for my Dad, I check the box for "After 2021", under "if widowed, what year did spouse die".  Then I resubmitted, and the returns were again rejected.

When the "fix" option in TurboTax again asked for my Mom's AGI, I changed it to $0.  I left the above changes that I had made before in place.  And then resubmitted.  Federal return has been accepted and have not heard yet for VA return.  Not sure if it was just the $0 that worked or the combination with the above changes.

Just thought I'd pass along what ended up working for me.

Rejected 2019 return based on my deceased spouse's agi

My situation is different from the 2019 Deceased Spouse AGI discussed.

I could not find one matching mine to get an answer for mine.

I am the Primary Filer and my husband is secondary - the Spouse - he is alive and well.

We file Married Filing Jointly as our Filing Status.

I have the Account Transcript from IRS for prior year (TY 2020).  The AGI number I entered on Turbo Tax Info wks matches the transcript.  Still, my filing has not been accepted because IRS says it cannot validate the spouse's data.    4 rejections so far.  No workable solution from Turbo Tax.

I even tried entering "0" - No luck.

Can someone help?

Thanks.
