I want to file a return for my son with zero income. But I can not do efile since his income is zero.
Any suggestions on how to do efile, instead of printing and mailing?
P.S. We want to do it, so we can use it later on for college Financial Aid/Loan.
Thanks

You would need to add $1 of interest income so that the 2022 tax return can be e-filed. You can use any name for the Payer or Received from: on the Form 1099-INT and enter $1 in box 1 of the form.
Thanks, Would this be tagged as incorrect since technically he did not have any 1099-INT? Is there any directive from IRS on this?
Thanks
Interest income of less than $10 is not reported to the IRS from financial institutions so the IRS will take this $1 at face value.
Is there any type of IRS directive for this, no there is not.
For college Financial Aid/Loan purposes, you can get an IRS Veification of Non-filing letter.
See https://www.washington.edu/financialaid/faq/verification-of-non-filing-letter-request/ (almost all colleges have a similar web page)
