You will still file as married (most likely jointly, since your spouse is not employed) even if your spouse doesn't work. You simply don't enter any income information for your spouse in the return.
What do I put as the occupation instead of blank? I got a warning that the occupation is needed.

Enter anything that describes the type of work for the year. If not employed or self-employed enter retired or unemployed.
