Which is all that's going to be available in a few years. You need to adjust.

The primary reason that intuit did not support Windows 10 is the testing cost.  The application is very unlikely to be using windows 11 specific functionality like AI functions or Windows 11 user interface elements.  It is always a tradeoff on whether to support an older platform or not,  and somewhere in management the decision was made to cut older operating systems, probably a bit prematurely.  I've had to make or support these decisions in the past professionally, and its never easy to alienate a group of customers.  They probably set out believing the upgrade curve would go as optimistically as microsoft promoted, and then got caught too late when it turned out to still have a heavy windows 10 contingent in their userbase.

I always run my tax software in a virtual machine I can archive away so I can restore that environment in the future, if needed.  It will be a pain to set up a win11 vm, I'll have to weigh that vs going with a different vendor for desktop tax prep.

I just stumbled upon this article and am thoroughly confused now.  I hadn’t heard anything about this.  I believe I have Windows 10 on my desktop computer.  Honestly I rarely use my desktop except to file my taxes:). I use their on-line version so this won’t affect me, right?

That is correct.

You might want to weigh whether or not the different vendor will make Windows 11 a requirement for the 2026 tax year. There are only two, H&R Block and TaxAct, so it shouldn't be too difficult to make that determination assuming, of course, that they have already made a decision.

M-MTax,

Thank you, much appreciated.

@iltm   You use the Online version that you log into using a browser?  Or do you download the desktop program and install it on your computer?   You don't need a desktop computer to use Turbo Tax Online.  You can  use a mobile device like a iPad or iPhone.

VolvoGirl, yes I use their on-line version.  And yes I do know I can use my iPad …it’s just easier for me on my desktop:)

Not windows 11 ready is often just a big fib. I required a BIOs update and no hardware.

Your machine must already have TPM 2.0, as that is required to run Windows 11,

I would think we could file our Federal taxes with our Federal government and not require any 3rd party vampire firm. IRS made a bad bargain with the devils years ago, because Congress gave the no money to fund the work. There might have been more than a little lobbyist work involved with Congress.

I have been able to file my State return with my State government for years.

I am on W10 with a free year of MS updates.  My fairly modern desktop cannot be upgraded to W11.  I want to know if the online TurboTax will allow me to import 2025 tax year data from my financial institution as I did with the 2024 tax year Deluxe TurboTax product.

@cwr64 Yes, you can import your 2025 financial data into the 2025 TurboTax online editions.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for importing forms 1099 - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/import-1099s/L2...

I just found out that in Canada Turbo Tax will fully support Windows 10 ESU for its desktop software for 2025 versions. So all of this speculation regarding Turbo Taxes motives does not hold water. Why would they support in one country and not another is the question.  Probably some consumer friendly regulatory issue?

in any event, I am moving to H&R Block which still supports Windows 10.  Enough of TurboTax.

The short answer here is that Canada is nowhere near as litigious as the USA.
