Tax Year 2020: Why can't I e-file state (CA) after I e-filed federal (IRS accepted)?

I did not e-file my federal and state returns together.  I e-filed federal first, and it was successfully accepted by the IRS.  I went to e-file my state (CA) return now, and I am unable to in TurboTax.  I get an error that says "to e-file you must also select federal return".  Obviously, I can't select federal because it was already accepted.

There currently is an issue with certain state tax returns not being able to be e-filed after the federal one has been filed.

If you are experiencing this issue, please see a sign up link in this Help Article to be notified of updates to the situation:  Why am I not able to e-file my state return after filing my Federal return?

You're posting in an old thread from last year.   All the posts above are over a year old.  A failed link may mean that a FAQ article was resolved last year and removed.

It's possible you might get help in this thread today, but there's no way to know.   You also need to explain your situation more and most importantly, whether you are using Online TurboTax or desktop software (CD/download).   If it's desktop software, is it for Mac or Windows?

If someone is familiar with your issue, they may comment in the forum today.

I'll also go ahead and tell you how you can phone TurboTax Support for realtime assistance.

Tax Year 2020: Why can't I e-file state (CA) after I e-filed federal (IRS accepted)?

After failing at attempting to e-file both federal and state returns, I managed to successfully efile my federal return by itself.  At that time Turbotax prompted me to remember to "come back" to file my state return.  The TTax functionality apparently does not support that capability because I could find NO entry to it.

This looks like it ought to be a simple fix.  I hope you can do it.

I am:  Robert Aitchison: [email address removed].  Please keep me informed of the status of this problem.

Thank you
