Based on the information that you have given, I am assuming that you are filing a California return.

Unfortunately, TurboTax is unable to support e-Filing of the California Schedule C for the 2019 tax year.  You will be able to file your federal return electronically, but you will have to print and mail the California return with Schedule C.

The state tax forms aren't quite ready to print yet, either.  You can monitor their status here: TurboTax State Forms Availability.

Thank you for your prompt and helpful response! Yes, I am in California and was not aware of this. Do any and all claimed expenses require a Schedule C or to be people who do not have home offices avoid them entirely?

Anyone who has self-employment income and expenses to claim - independent contractors, business owners, sole proprietors, partners in partnerships, and others such are required to file Schedule C to account for their income and expenses.

While I can certainly understand the frustration of having to file by mail, you want to be sure that you claim the expenses that you incur against the income for your side gigs.  You don't want to have to pay the extra tax instead!

I have some good news and an update for you if you have not yet mailed your returns.

You will now be able to file your return electronically as a recent update has made this possible.
