...and now it says the 9th. For all who see this, what program did you guys move to that could e-file the 8915-f? I cannot sit in limbo until April like the last couple of years.
The IRS has not updated instructions for 2022 yet. Please see the information here concerning form 8915-F.
The IRS updated the form and it is dated 1/23.
I came here to say the same thing - the IRS has been accepting e-filing for this for the past month.
The latest update that we have, states that it will be available on March 9, 2023, for TurboTax users.
If you are using the desktop editions of TurboTax, make sure to keep updating your software. Click on Online at the top of the desktop program screen. Click on Check for Updates.
You must go to the Retirement Income section of the program for a Form 1099-R to be able to enter your 3rd year of the 2020 distribution -
If you had a Covid-19 related distribution in 2020 and selected to spread the distribution over 3 years:
Answer Yes when asked Have you ever taken a disaster distribution before 2022?
Answer Yes when asked if you took a Qualified 2020 Disaster Distribution
Check the box that this was a Coronavirus-related distribution reported in 2020
@LindaS5247 , this is my 3rd year not second. I used the 8915e for 2020, then they changed it to a forever form 8915f in 2021, now 2022 it's the 3rd year. Just wish they would get it organized better before tax season because they are aware people need this form.
A lot of it depends on the IRS finalizing their instructions for the Form and e-filing capabilities for the Form after it is finalized.
Decided to switch over to Taxslayer - no issues and priced reasonable - $20. My return is somewhat complicated but knocked it out relatively quickly. Form 8915-f was available and I am e-filed.
@LindaS5247 yes very frustrating. I have seen posts that IRS finalized in January, so I'm just curious why it takes software programming so long to integrate it. Especially since I was under the impression that it was the same form as last year.
Thanks so much for the recommendation. There is nothing special about TurboTax.
I got tired of the date getting pushed and used FreeTaxUSA a couple of weeks ago with no problem. E-filed return was accepted and my refund was deposited in 5 business days.
Just updated and mine still says 3/2.
Correction- this morning it now says 3/9.
Why does TurboTax keeping stringing us along. I paid two weeks ago and was ready to file but, TurboTax is still fumbling around with one form? Now TurboTax has punted the date again to "3/9/2023"? I will call to ask for a refund, and then will file with another company.
Disappointing. Someone needs to get TurboTax moving on this. Most online tax filing software have had this available for weeks and months. Add on to this tweet to put Turbotax on notice

going from previous experience, this form wasn't available on Turbotax until mid-to-late March last year, so I expect the same this year.
