When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

@Rmunz885 Are you telling me what to do, stranger? If you don't have anything to say about TurboTax you should be silent.  Clear enough?

My goal is for you to take your nonsense elsewhere.

Just ignore that person. When you give people like that your attention, you just give them what they want and fuel their foolishness. I filed my federal and state returns on freetaxusa yesterday after waiting and waiting for turbo tax to get it up. After years of using them, I will never let TT rob me again. The crazy thing is that they would still have my business except that they didn’t have this form available so I went online to search for anyone that does.

@Ms_I So you think it is appropriate to come to the TurboTax website, shill for another service, and try to drive business away?  Using their resources, no less?

I guess if you have no morals or shame?

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Dear Turbo Tax Users,

I've been getting spammed with the same question for the last 2 weeks - just unchecked the email me someone replies option. Here are some general insights from every response I have reviewed and make sure you follow before posting the same question over and over again.

1. Form 8915-F is a needed to file your taxes and report your Covid 19 distribution.

2. Turbo Tax promised to have the form ready by 3/31/2022, which is just 2 weeks from the deadline and it's honestly an insult to all of us. A company this big needs to have better project management on this.

3. The rough math is really simple. If you took a Covid-19 401K withdrawal and didn't pay it back to your plan (a distribution), you had the option to pay all taxes on it in 2020 or 1/3 for the next 3 years. There is no other option.

4. Based on the example of the above, if you took out 30K, then you will need to pay taxes on the 30K in 1 year or split over 3 years AND minus any taxes you paid upfront. Multiply the 30K by your tax rate (say 30 % all in) and that's your bill for all 3 years or 1/3 for the next 3 years. The whole point of  this relief from Congress is to make sure you don't pay the usual 10% federal penalty and that you can pay taxes over time in 3 years.

5. Turbo Tax dropped the ball on this, but it seems H&R Block has the same issue and wants to you PAY extra to have a paid advisor help you with this - ridiculous. They have implemented the "solution" faster than TT, but it appears to be a money grab.

6. My advice is to wait until "3/31". However, I think the 3/31 is a software dev "safe" date.  I think TT will release the form sooner.

7. All major financial institutions like banks or brokerage firms have released their financial forms by now, so technically we are just waiting for TT.

8. TT customer support is clueless, just follow this forum, but read before posting the same question over and over again.

if I misstated something, please correct me.

I have a question about 4.

if I paid the taxes on it upfront, that is supposed to be deducted for the amount we owe?

All taxes paid were claimed last year. They were not split over 3 years.  You either got a bigger refund or applied some amount of refund to this year.  Some people will be shocked this year, I think....

@TravisTractor Not a bad mashup except about what is acceptable and not and what is a cash grab.

Acceptable to me may not be acceptable to you.  It is not an insult to all of us.  You don't speak for me, and this type of comment just inflames people.  If they are upset about it already, it just makes them feel worse, if they aren't upset about it then the it doesn't change their opinion.  This  inflammatory rhetoric serves no purpose.

So, both of the biggest companies "dropped the ball" and it is a "cash grab?"  Well here is what you can do.  Fill out your own taxes without using software, go to a bookkeeper, or pay the market rate and quit complaining.

It seems you forgot to lay the blame firmly where it belongs.  The blame goes to the IRS not releasing the form until well into the filing year.  How did that escape your analysis?

I'll give you marks for positing really useful information and for trying to help.  However, I must deduct points for becoming emotional, pointing fingers in the wrong direction, trying to decide how much profit a public company should make, and most importantly for inflaming tempers unnecessarily.

see the notes above - WHICH IS REDICULOUS......   March 31st.   Seriously.  About ready to do my taxes on another app instead of Turbo tax.  This is BS to have to wait that long.  Very angry.....  Especially this year there is no extension for when taxes are due.  So you know if you took one of these disbursements - chances are you are going to owe - and we have 2 weeks to come p with the ?? mystery amount of money.

Thank you.

What I have learned on this thread is that one particular user is kind of a bully on this thread.  I certainly appreciate the info and continue to wait for TT.  The options just don't give me a good feeling.

@Anonymous But a bully with good advice?  It's not bully BTW, It's calling out people who want to blame their problems on someone else , or want to use this companies resources to steer users to a competitor.

Both of my goals are fine, maybe the tone is occasionally harsh.  Shrug it off, rub some dirt on it, we used to not get offended by everything expecting someone else to do our conflict resolution for us.

When will the 2021 8915-f form be available on Turbo Tax to efile?

Good morning,

I have used TT for more years than I can remember. This is the longest wait for form updates that I can remember. It is frustrating since we have become a society of instantaneous results. I would hope TT is reviewing the messages that are being transmitted to members of this site. Having used Intuit products for more than 20 years, they have been reputable and concerned with customer satisfaction. As for this year...I am at a loss for the delay. Everything else is blamed on COVID, let's blame the delay on COVID as well.

Best regards

@Sal-Ella

The TT software should be programmed to account for the 2020 taxes paid. So I'm sure there will be a question on how much you paid. It cannot ignore the fact most of us paid a some portion in taxes  last year. I have the same question on how the program will handle it.
