Great news! The IRS created new Form 8915-F to replace Form 8915-E. This form will be used for anyone who chose to take a distribution from their retirement and spread the taxable amount over three years.
It was recently (approximately 10 days) taken out of draft and finalized. TurboTax has an available date of March 24, 2022. Continue to check the availability date by using the link provided.
When entering your 1099-R in TurboTax CD/Download, you’ll be asked Was this withdraw due to Covid-19? On the next screen, it should ask you Did you test positive for the coronavirus in 2020? However, some users are reporting they aren’t being asked that second question.

According to the "federal Individual forms availability" site, form 8915-F will be released 3/24/22. nothing like waiting till the last minute!
3/24/22 estimated
This is your business and its super irritating that it’s taking so long - we’ll be 15 days to filing- I may change next year
What if you did not spread out the taxes, paid it all in 2020 and have not taken any distributions or made any repayments in 2021? Is there a way to go around waiting for that form?
You could just say you didn’t take any contribution- they won’t audit a default bc you already paid the taxes so there is no delinquency.
That is my exact question. Everything was paid in 2020 and yet it still won’t let me continue without an 8915 form. I am frustrated beyond belief. It looks like next year I will be switching out of TurboTax.
It won’t even allow me to do that. I have tried every avenue around it and it sends me back to the 8915 form.
Have you tried these steps below to delete the unnecessary form?
If you are using the TurboTax online editions -
Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen
Click on Tools
Click on Delete a form
It appears the form 8915-F will be released 3/24 on Proseries. However, going back to find those that used 8915-E on the 2020 return is not possible. Any help would be great.
I am a retired CPA, but not an income tax expert. I just read the draft instructions for Form 8915-F and I believe it is crystal clear that one should file Form 8915-F in 2021 to report the second 1/3 of a Covid 19 disaster payment received and initially reported in 2020. Can anyone tell when the IRS will release this Form and when TurboTax will have it installed? This is absolutely ridiculous and another example of why Government should not be allowed to manage anything!

This mess is the IRS’s fault and not TurboTax’s!
What mess, exactly,? TurboTax is not ready.
Other tax prep software has been ready with the form for weeks or longer.
How is that IRS's fault.?
I was told 2 weeks ago the from would be in turbo tax on 03/17, I agree this is extremely frustrating it should not take this long for Turbo tax to publish the IRS form that is already available. I hate waiting until the last possible time to do my taxes....
