I have the same issue for KY. Did you find an answer to this?
No, sorry I never did find an answer to fix this issue. I actually had to go file my state on the MD state website.
Form 4562 Line 8 is for Total elected cost of section 179 property.
The way to change it is to return to the the original asset entry or to return to the state interview and verify whether all the details were entered regarding the asset.
For more information about depreciation, see: What is a Section 179 deduction?
Depreciation of Business Assets - TurboTax Tax Tips & Videos-which includes information about Section 179 and the special depreciation allowance, or bonus depreciation.
I am having the exact same issue (IN). It says that the max allowable for my state is 25,000 and my asset depreciation is 26,454 (1,454 over the state limit). When I do to my state input section, it correctly shows that there is a discrepancy from the federal input for section 179 of 1,454. However when I go to check my return, it is giving me the same error and will not allow me to adjust it.
I do not want to adjust the asset itself as this will adversely affect my federal return.
How do you fix this issue to submit your return correctly??
When you go through your IN return, there should be an automatic $5,000 depreciation adjustment for your sec 179 and a place to make adjustments. What are you seeing? Is yours not sec 179? Are you a full year resident?

I am getting this same exact issue within the software here 2 years later. This is also within IN. What is happening within the software is that it isn't adjusting line 8 correctly within form 4562. There is a state dollar limitation of $25,000, as stated on line 7. Line 8 says that it cannot exceed line 7, yet the software allows that to happen. Within the state return, the software makes the correct adjustment and the limitation is applied. There isn't any problem on my state return. Yet back on the federal return for this form 4562, the software doesn't work. When the "Check This Entry" error comes up, there is no place to make the change on line 8. It is hard coded. And when you go back through all the prompts, this issue doesn't appear and it there isn't any clear place to make a change to fix it. So what are we left to do? We have to freaking print out the return and mail it. Just wonderful. I've paid almost $200 to Intuit for software and at the end of the day, they can't even get an e-file done for me. I've been a customer for 10 years, with the same business and the same type of return and never have had this issue. I will not be returning next year.
