The 1095-A is the Health Insurance Marketplace Statement. You will receive this IF you purchased your health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace.
The 1095-C is the Employer Provided Health Insurance tax form. If you receive your health insurance through your employer you will receive this.
Thanks
The 1095-A form is for people who have health insurance through the Health Insurance Marketplace, often called an exchange. This form is to reconcile your Premium Tax Credit; you claim it by filing Form 8962 with your tax return. You'll need your Form 1095-A to fill out this form.
Form 1095-C, Health Coverage, is used to report the type of health coverage you had, dependents covered by your insurance, and how many months you had coverage for in 2019 to the IRS. This form is not reported on your tax return.
I have a 1095-C, and, turbo tax is requesting info from 1095-A
The 1095-C shows that you had health insurance from a good-sized employer.
The 1095-A shows that you bought health insurance from the Marketplace under the Affordable Care Act.
If you have Marketplace insurance, then you must enter the 1095-A into TurboTax so it can produce a form 8962.
If you did not have Marketplace insurance, then you must have accidentally indicated to TurboTax that you did. Try the following:
1. Do a Search (upper right) for 1095-a and click on the jump-to link (Mac users must find 1095-A in the Topics List).
Answer the question that you do not have such insurance.
2. Otherwise, do the following:
*** Desktop***
A. go to View (at the top), choose Forms, and select 1095-A. Note the Delete Form button at the bottom of the screen.
*** Online ***
A. go to Tax Tools (on the left), and navigate to Tools->Delete a form
B. delete form1095-A
Oh, if you see a form 8962, delete that too.
This does not work as stated above.
Turbo Tax 2020 Premier (dowloaded Mac Version) Easy Steps to: Enter your 1095-A. I have a 1095C.
I tried various ways to find 1095-C and only find 1095-A.
Methods tried:
1) Open Form Button top center of window. Search in that for "1095" only 1095-A is offered. Search for "109" and see lots of forms... so search works as expected. 1095-C is not there...
2) Scroll and read, in Forms mode (rather than easy step mode), the left column of forms. Cannot even find 1095-A (the one I do not want). Cannot find 1095-C.
I know what they are. I know the difference. I need to know how to get Turbo Tax Premier2020 to delete the incorrect 1095-A form and show me a 1095-C form so I can do the entries and move on.
"This does not work as stated above." What does work as stated above?
"Search in that for "1095" only 1095-A is offered. Search for "109" and see lots of forms... so search works as expected. 1095-C is not there..." Of course. You do not need to enter any data from the 1095-B or 1095-C, hence no reason to search for them, only for 1095-A.
"Cannot even find 1095-A " That's good. Are you still getting stopped in the Review about the 1095-A? When you went into Forms mode, did you see a form 8962? If so, delete that, too.
"Turbo Tax Premier2020 to delete the incorrect 1095-A form " I don't understand - you said that there was no 1095-A in Forms mode. Again, are you being stopped in the Review about the 1095-A?
You are working too fast.
1095-A is the only thing I can find. and I need 1095-C. I wrote about the methods I used to try to find 1095-C and noted (confusingly for you, sorry) the appearance of forms I did not need.
I need to Delete 1095-A
I need to FIND 1095-C.
(everything points to this being an Either/Or situation: A for individually obtained plans and C for big companies)
TurboTax is keeping me from moving forward by insisting on entries in 1095-A
You only enter 1095-A forms on your federal return. Forms 1095-B and 1095-C do not get entered on the federal return. Keep those with your tax records. @paulofoakland
If you do not have a 1095-A, answer NO to that question and skip the healthcare section.
For Obamacare enrollees:
You should receive a 1095-A (by mid-February) if you purchased health insurance through Healthcare.gov or your state's health insurance marketplace. It should include info for everybody on your return who was enrolled in a Marketplace plan. Unlike the 1095-B and 1095-C, you need to enter this form. You won't be able to take the Premium Tax Credit without it (Form 1095-A).
AH... go back... say no... go forward. Simple now. Thanks.
EDIT: Also go to the forms view. Find the 1095-A that I accidentally created. Click on it. Go to Menu: Forms>Remove Form 1095-A.... Click "Yes" to the warning that it cannot be undone.
Quick question: I was under my moms 1095-A form for the first 3 months of 2021. Then I got my own through my company for the last 3months of 2021, which I got a 1095-C form. My mom already reported her 2021 taxes and got it accepted, if I recall correctly. In that case, should i be getting my own 1095-A form from my company for the last 3 months or should I be fine just going through the proper steps and delete the 1095-A form from my tools
Yes, you can delete Form 1095-A from your return. Form 1095-A is used when you prepare your tax returns when you were the owner of a health insurance plan under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) you were on your mom's plan so your mother reported your coverage when she filed her return.
Form 1095-C is an informational form that provides verification that you had health care insurance, Form 1095-C is not used when preparing your tax return.
The e-File database indicates that Form 8962 or a binary attachment with description containing "ACA Explanation" must be present in the return.
I got this message after filing earlier today before I posted) so my question is do I need to include her 1095-A form information or can I proceed to delete the 1095-A form from "my tools"
I am not sure if it will get rejected again if I delete the form or if I need to include her info or if my company should send me a 1095-A form (I only received a 1095-C form from them )
Here is what I found that is relevant to your tax situation:
If you are on your parent's 1095-A, then you need to enter your parent's 1095-A on your tax return. You need to agree with your parents on what percent of the 1095-A your will be responsible for. It can be 100% for them and 0% for you or whatever you both agree to.
Both you and your parent's will mark that you are on a 1095'A with another person who is not on the return. You will need their social security numbers.
The only requirement are that all parties agree to the percentages taken and that the percentages add up to 100%.
If you don't enter the 1095-A form on your return, IRS won't process your return until you submit Form 8962. You will receive an IRS letter after you file.
