Is everyone's number unique? I've seen earlier postings here that say the number is: 87-6000545WTH. Does everyone use this same number. Or, are each of us issued a unique number. Not much help with this on the Intuit website. Seems to be stopping a lot of us from filing our 2024 returns.
Box 15 on the 1099-R for state, city, or local income tax return is blank, as are boxes 13 and 14. Box 16 has a large number.
Thanks for clarification.

No, each form does not have a unique number. Try removing the hyphen and change the WTH to lowercase. There are a few different account numbers that are used for Utah withholding, depending on the tax form, but it is the format of the number that sometimes causes an issue on Utah forms.
A tax form entry needs 9-11 digits followed by wth - Example: 12345678901wth
If there is no tax withheld, you may need to try entering zero in Box 14 OR deleting 14-16 leaving them blank.

Thanks for your reply, DawnC.
As I was going back and forth between this forum and my 1040, I saw that the error flag had been removed from the list of forms. I have two IRAs, an inherited one from my dad and my own. Turbo Tax shows three copies, one for each of them but the numbers don't agree with the 1099-R sent to me by Schwab. This is strange. Looks like Turbotax has entered the numbers I entered during the interview. The form with the data from the inherited IRA shows a "Payer's State/state no." which is different from the one listed above. The error flag is gone. So maybe Turbotax will accept this now?
The number that Turbotax inserted is: UT / 1234567 (not that numerical number, but a unique one with six digits and not 87-60005455WTH. This is all very confusing!
There was no Utah State withholding, so I'm confused as to why this is even an issue.
I can't file yet, as I'm waiting for another K-1 from a Limited Partnership that is worthless, but still filing K-1s each year, and four or five months late. Very frustrating.
I've used TurboTax for several decades and not seen this problem before. I"ve filed returns with these two 1099-Rs for over 20 years, Not seen this problem, or error message before. My dad passed away 24 years ago and I'm still being taxed on the IRA I inherited from him plus my own. At 82 years of age, I'm starting to slow down mentally.
Thanks for your help and sorry for the long message!

I'll reply to my post above. Turbotax Premier 2024 gave me three copies of Form 1099-R for my two IRAs. I downloaded the two 1099-Rs into Turbotax from my stock brokers' website (Charles Schwab) and also received them in the US Mail. After running Turbotax I saw three copies of the 1099-R, listed under the "Forms" option. Two of them referenced my personal IRA, but one of them was not complete (my personal IRA). These two both referenced the same Account Number. One of them showed the State distribution as the total value of the IRA. The other was blank. The one from the inherited IRA showed in. box 15 a payer's of 1737782, the two from my IRA showed the state only (UT) , but no state number. This number doesn't have enough digits. Not sure why I have three copies of this in Turbotax, as l only receveived two in the mail.
This is very confusing to me. Turbotax has stopped flagging an error and I'm not sure why the second 1099-R for my personal IRA shows the total Gross distribution in box 16, State Distribution. Just checked to see if there is an update to Turbotax and I have the most recent version. I think there is a problem in Turbotax in processing the downloaded 1099-Rs.
Maybe it doesn't matter. l want to do my tax return correctly and do not want to have an IRS audit. It now passes the Turbotax error check. I have to file an extension because one of my K-1s is late. I can't file my final return until after that K-1 is entered and the limited partnership's accountant says it won't be here until July. So much for the deadline to deliver the K-1s.
Sorry for this additional detail. Really confusing to see three copies of the 1099-Rs where there should only be two. If anyone has waded through all of this, I'd appreciate some advice. Really don't want to have to file an amended return later. I suspect that there are still bugs in Turbotax Premier 2024.
