The topic seems to be actual in 2022. Apparently, paper-based 15111 misses A LOT of qualifying statements. Here is a helpful online tool from IRS to evaluate qualification for ETIC:
https://apps.irs.gov/app/eitc/filing-status/
In principle, turboTax asked me same questions in the same order along the way of filing my return.
I got a mail from IRS with 15111, but I actually do not qualify.
I was able to check on the click provided and it does say I qualify for an earned credit.
Same thing happened to me and this is the third year with turbo tax
it should not have happened
Same thing happened to me. I wont use turbo tax again either.
I filed 3 taxes - and all came back with the EIC error. So it is indeed a software problem.
SAME! so frustrating. Somehow, the programmers dropped the ball.
Same- they should refund the fees paid. Class action lawsuit?
yes- we did everything correct and there is still errors with EIC.
experts! help us out with this question please....
We sent ours from Utah, to the Texas address provided on the envelope, dropped off at the post office on March 23, 2022. Still have no updates or a check in the mail.
I am in the same boat. WHY Turbo Tax missed this is beyond me and has cost me time and energy. I cant get anyone at the IRS and since my personal info has changed, I am forced to go through the FEAR monger group called IDME to PROVE I am who I am. So ridiculous. I am well over 10 weeks and cant make an APPT with the IRS either. The lines just dump me.
Well, Turbo Tax failed me when I filed my taxes. I missed out on the child credit and it’s only after I received this form that I realized that even with the extra fees, guarantees from Turbo Tax. The system failed. I spoke to an agent about this at Turbo Tax and all she offered was an apology, discount for next year when I file my taxes. I wonder why Turbo Tax offers to have you pay extra fees guaranteeing you that they will double check your taxes and make sure you are getting the full compensation. This is a scheme!! Dirty scheme and people are leaving money on the table without knowledge. I am highly disappointed with Turbo tax for not keeping up to their guarantee.’😡
I did my taxes in Feb. Paid $89 and I went thru the same process like I have for the past 6-7 years. And I got my taxes back and here in May 2022 I get a letter saying I may be owed around $6k and I read over the letter and I did in fact qualify, so I mailed the letter with required documents. It's been 8 weeks this week I have googled everything I could and called and like everyone else I got dumped. If this was us needing to pay the IRS they would want their money ASAP. But we have to wait forever. I may not use the TurboTax anymore. This is ridiculous and we should be accommodated for their inconvenience.
@Bfarine75060 - the IRS is woefully backlogged and Turbo Tax has absolutely no control over the speed at which the IRS operates.
I've seen others post that they received letters from the IRS that they MAY be eligible for EITC. But no one has posted that they actually received anything from the IRS. Also, EITC is automatically calculated by Turbo Tax, so I am also trying to figure out how a mistake could have occured. if it weas a software issue then there would be THOUSANDS of complaints on these boards, but otherwise I wonder if it was an input error.
What do you have on line 11 and Line 27a of Form 1040?
Are you under 25 years old? (there was a special rule in 2021 for those under 25 years old)
that will quickly help me understand what is causing the IRS to send out letters that taxpayers MAY be entitied to EITC.
No I'm not 25. I did my taxes same as I have done every year. I even thought it looked wired so I went to other places and yes I would have gotten more back but I wasn't paying $200 for to them so I went to turbo tax again this year. I'm not saying it's their fault but it's their software for sure. Now we have to wait months for it to get fixed. I have 2 dependents and my money was enough for me to qualify. I wouldn't have sent it in if I wasn't. Just want this to be over
