Form 8962 is the Premium Tax Credit form. You need to input your form 1095-A that reports your health care premiums paid. You enter that in the Deductions and Credits section of TurboTax which you will find under Medical.
This was a very helpful explanation - thank you! If I may ask another question: I got this reject code, but have insurance through my employer and not marketplace. If anything I think I would get a 1095-B or 1095-C, but I have read that these are unnecessary for filing. Are there steps I can take to resolve this error?
Since you don't have marketplace insurance, you don't need to enter form 1095-A or complete form 8962, but one or both may have gotten into your program somehow. I suggest you look for these forms and delete them if they are in your program.
A simple way to delete forms in TurboTax online is to use the Tax Tools menu option, which is on your left menu bar when you are working in your program. Then, choose Tools and then Delete a form.
If you are working in the download TurboTax program, use the Forms Mode on your menu bar to bring up the form you want to delete, then choose the Delete Form option at the bottom of the form.
Gotcha, I think I figured the issue out and it stemmed from my parents having marketplace insurance and the fact that I was covered on it for part of the year while I was still in school. I didn't know about the tax tools/form deletion option though! Thank you for your help and your response!
Just deleting the form will not work ... the IRS will just reject your return again. If you were listed on a 1095-A at all for any time you MUST enter the 1095-A form even if you will allocate none of the credit on your return ... get a copy from your parents and discuss how you will allocate the credit between your return and theirs.
Hello,
I appreciate the advice - that is the current plan. The form has been mailed, and if it isn't received soon I'll determine how to access from there. I really appreciate the note on allocating the credit - I was unaware of this, and will likely yield all benefit to my parents.
Thanks again!
They have been available online since 1/6 however they will not be mailed until next monday ... https://www.healthcare.gov/tax-form-1095/#find-1095-a
Gotcha, appreciate the help!
I do not receive marketplace insurance nor do I have a 1095-A. I have employer provided insurance. I keep getting the reject code no matter what I do. The IRS stated I should use a different type of tax software, but I still keep getting the reject code. PLEASE HELP!
Sheila
If you had a 1095-A in 2020 AND you transferred the 2020 info into the 2021 program then return to the 1095-A section and this time say YES so you can get to the next screen where you can delete the shell 1095-A that you do not need and then say NO to move on.
Attempted to delete those forms but they aren't there.
Assistance with deleting forms has been provided for you by clicking here. It will guide you step-by-step on getting the forms deleted that you don't need.
I filed the rejected tax return but I think it will be rejected again because under the medical I answered the questions about the HDHP which is Healthcare through your employment right? That is what I have but it keep asking for a 1095-A in which I never had a Marketplace healthcare. So do I delete the form 8889 Health Savings Account in which I think I filled out by accident?
Yes, you should remove Form 8889 since it does not apply to you, meaning you do not have a Health Savings Account (HSA). Other information is posted for your convenience and information.
Your tax return is missing Form 1095-A entries and the IRS records indicate that someone listed on the tax return (taxpayer, spouse, or a dependent) had Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance at some point during 2021. The health exchanges, including HealthCare.gov or an applicable Health Insurance Marketplace, are required to mail Form 1095-A on 1/31/22 to anyone who had ACA healthcare-plan coverage for any period in 2021, you need to receive their form soon.
The IRS records indicate that someone listed on your customer’s tax return had an ACA health insurance plan at some point during 2021. Your customer may need to contact the Marketplace if they feel they’ve incorrectly received this e-file rejection.
