Rosetta would run TurboTax compiled for Intel CPU's more slowly in emulation mode on Apple Silicon CPU's. TurboTax 2023 was built using Apple's Xcode development environment in which changing a setting would result in universal binary that would run natively at full speed on both Intel and Apple Silicon CPU's. Those of us with Apple Silicon computers are paying a performance penalty even despite paying the full price for TurboTax. The fact that Intuit hasn't built universal TurboTax binaries for the several years that this has been possible is inexcusable.
I can confirm that TurboTax 2024 still requires Rosetta when running on Apple Silicon Macs because Intuit refuses to offer TurboTax as a native Apple Silicon app.
See this help article for troubleshooting steps for Mac issues.
See here for the current minimum system requirements.
I have been running my Mac with Rosetta since last year with no issues.
Except I don't want to install Rosetta on my Mac. I shouldn't have to run a modern full price tax software in an emulator. Intuit needs to update their legacy software.
I also noted TurboTax 2024 is still an Intel based App. It should be built as a Universal App so it runs equally well and fast on older Intel Macs and new/future Apple Silicon Macs. Intuit keeps updating for new macOS versions, surely it can switch to building as a Universal App to avoid future problems when Apple drops Rosetta2 from macOS. It will happen, just like it did with Rosetta(1), which caused lots of problems with Quicken Mac 2007 during the Apple transition from PowerPC to Intel.
Quicken has not part of Intuit for a few years. Thank god! I am definitely afraid of repeating what happened with Quicken Mac 2007. Quicken for Mac has had a Native Apple Silicon binary (universal binary) for 5 years.
I know many people have said here that the current version of TurboTax, for the Mac was developed with Xcode. I assume there is another reason why they haven’t been able to come out with an Apple Silicon binary. Every time I do an update to the current software, I hope that it all of a sudden will say universal binary.
Unlike with quicken back with Rosetta 1, turboTax now offers an online solution. That solution may not be adequate for some people. However, my fear is they want to force people to use that, and May discontinue supporting macOS going forward.
