Turbo Tax 2024 Desktop Basic download: The program is suggesting that I need to file a Washington State return but Washington does NOT have an income tax filing requirement.
I don't get it!

Turbotax basic for PC keeps asking me to purchase a state return even though it knows I am filing from and live in Washington state, which has no income tax. Is Intuit trying to trick people into buying something they don't need?
Ignore the message since WA does not have a personal income tax.
However, in 2024 Washing does have a Working Families Tax Credit Application which may be messing things up.
Click on Forms. When in Forms mode see if there is the application listed, should be at the bottom of the list of the left side in Forms mode since it is a state form. Also, there may be a Washington Information Worksheet listed and if it is, delete the worksheet.
If it is listed, click on the form to open and then click on Delete Form at the bottom of the screen.
I did not see forms, however, when I clicked through the links, came up with an error loading the Washington State form. Looks like it can be ignored!
Same problem here.
how were you able to ignore it, it just keeps taking me to the same screen
If you have no form to delete, selected not to file your state return. File your federal without the state return, which is allowed for every state. I do realize that the Washington state return is not required if, as indicated earlier, you do not have Working Families Tax Credit Application
Please update here if you continue to have this experience.
Still doesn't work, keeps freezing up.
There may be a box checked in the File section of the program that you need to change.
Once you have gone through the federal review, and you click on the file tab, you will need to go through a few screens until you see the screen titled "We Recommend E-Filing Your State Return."
Scroll down on this page until you see Washington. Be sure to change the box from "E-file my state return now" to "Do not e-file my state return now. I'll do it later."
This should allow you to proceed and just file your federal return. Please see the screenshot below for what this page will look like.
