Unable to Import Forms - JPMorgan Chase - TY2022

Bless you; this worked!

In my Chase account, I was able to restrict the sharing to just the one brokerage account, the data finally imported and I didn't get kicked out of TT.

It has been several years in a row that TT has had problems importing from Chase; previously it was a bum url and I had my cheat sheet ready, but this year, it's a completely different problem. No way was I going to enter all the data by hand!

Importing the 1099 data is the main reason I'm using TT.  They'd better get their act together; this is getting tiresome.

Thank you for this information.  I am using Turbo 2023 and was on phone with help desk for an hour and no answer.  The linking ONLY the brokerage accounts is what WORKED.  Thank you thank you anonymous

So I too had this problem yesterday, and just manually typed in my info, but I have my other family members to do so. It's now 2024, why hasn't this been fixed??  It's not like Chase is a small-time bank.  To be blunt, I don't have the time to start running through reams of posts about only selecting certain types of account of performing other acts to get around a problem that is over a year old!

T/T and Chase are two premier organizations/software and need to work correctly.

This isn't a piece of shareware that's free. If indeed there's a restriction on only certain types of accounts, then Chase and/or T/T shouldn't offer on the panel the selection.

So when can I expect this to work for whatever accounts we have listed for the other taxes I need to do before April 2024?

The imports do work, but each brokerage/ financial institution may have different instructions for importing from their accounts, especially the larger companies, where you need to be sure you have identified the right subsidiary or type of account.

Please see here for instructions from JP Morgan Chase to import/download documents from different types of accounts into TurboTax.

Please see this TurboTax help article for more information on how to address issues with importing.

In the alternative, you can enter them manually in summary sections, as you noted.  TurboTax provides this option for exactly this scenario. See this discussion.

The summary sections should be on the first page of your 1099-B.  It will break down the trades into four sections.

The four sections are -

  • Short term covered (owned for less than a year and the basis amount that was reported to the IRS is correct)
  • Short term non-covered (owned for less than a year and the basis amount wasn't reported at all)
  • Long term covered (owned for more than a year and the basis amount that was reported to the IRS is correct)
  • Long term non-covered (owned for more than a year and the basis amount wasn't reported at all)

After you have entered the totals into the sections that appear on your statement (you probably don't have all four) the program will offer you the option to upload a pdf of your 1099-B to attach to the return for submission.

I appreciate the reply, but perhaps you miss my point. I don't need to have to read and navigate all the stuff that you sent.  Simply fix the issue whereby I click on IMPORT, provide my credentials, and JP Morgan Chase's import process doesn't crash Turbo Tax as happens and I lose all my data from a last save.  I shouldn't have to worry about all the wordage you provided.

I completely agree with this. It is completely unacceptable to pay this much money for Tax Software to have it fail to import from one of the worlds largest banking institutions.
